Dining table DOWNTOWN oak and steel 180 × 90 cm KARE Design

The Dining table DOWNTOWN oak and steel 180 × 90 cm KARE Design brings a clear, urban statement to a modern dining room or open-plan living space. Its generous rectangular oak top offers plenty of room for everyday meals, weekend brunches and shared platters without feeling crowded. Positioned at the heart of your home, it quickly becomes the surface where laptops, homework and board games naturally gather between dinners. In a kitchen-diner, the table can align with an island to create a continuous work-and-dine line that visually structures the room. The pale oak surface brightens the surroundings, while the black steel frame adds a strong graphic note that frames chairs and floor coverings. At 180 cm long, it comfortably hosts several guests in a row, and the 90 cm width keeps enough depth for serving dishes placed in the centre without encroaching on each guest’s setting.

Design and visual presence

The DOWNTOWN dining table plays on a striking contrast between its pale oak top and its angular black steel frame. The rectangular top is straightforward and clean-edged, allowing the natural wood grain to become the main decorative detail, running lengthways like a subtle, linear pattern. Its light tone softens the geometry of the piece and reflects available light, helping the table sit easily even in smaller interiors. Beneath, the base forms splayed, outward-leaning legs that intersect in open X-like diagonals, joined by a long central stretcher. This framework creates a sense of movement and architectural interest without appearing heavy. The negative space within and around the structure keeps the table from visually blocking the room, while the bold black lines ground the composition. From every side, you read a balance between warm material and graphic geometry, giving the table a contemporary, confident presence.

Why this piece stands out

• Striking mix of pale oak top and black steel frame, offering a graphic focal point that instantly energises minimalist or neutral dining spaces.
• Generous 180 cm length allows comfortable seating for family and guests, while still leaving room to move easily around the table edges.
• Splayed X-like legs create sculptural interest under the top, making the base visually engaging from every seat without overwhelming surrounding furniture.
• Rectangular 90 cm depth gives ample space for shared dishes and decorative centrepieces while keeping individual place settings neatly organised.
• Open, angular frame leaves much of the floor visible, ideal for showcasing a rug and maintaining a light, uncluttered feel in open-plan rooms.

Where this table works best

With its 180 × 90 cm proportions, the DOWNTOWN table suits both classic dining rooms and elongated living-dining layouts. Place it lengthways in front of a window or along the longest wall to emphasise its linear silhouette. In open-plan spaces, align the table parallel to your kitchen units to create a clear visual axis and a natural flow from cooking to eating. Aim for at least enough clear space around the table so chairs can be pulled out comfortably and walkways remain unobstructed. A rectangular rug slightly larger than the tabletop will frame the black X-shaped legs and anchor the ensemble. Long-term decorative coherence

The combination of pale oak and black steel gives the DOWNTOWN table a versatile, enduring aesthetic base for evolving interiors. Pair it with black-framed chairs to echo the graphic structure, or soften the look with fabric-covered seats in oatmeal, sand or grey tones. Surrounding wall colours in warm whites, stone or muted greens will highlight the natural grain of the oak without competing visually. Over time, you can refresh the room by rotating accessories – pendant lights, tableware, cushions – while the table continues to tie everything together. Its linear form works equally well alongside low, streamlined sideboards or open shelving with simple profiles. Should you reconfigure the room later, the clear geometry and neutral materials make it easy to reposition the table in a different orientation while preserving a harmonious, consistent visual story.
